ABOUT MARC

What we are

Mor Athanasius rehabilitation centre and special school were founded in 2013 with aim of providing support to students who require special attention and guidance. Our school methodically prepares students with intellectual disabilities for complete and independent lives. Children with special needs benefit from our customized curriculum aimed at providing a child-centered, holistic learning experience. Our extracurricular activities assist students in discovering more about themselves as well as developing and applying their skills and knowledge in many contexts.

Age group

The MARC special school provides academic teaching and training for mentally challenged students aged between 5 to 35 years. The divisions of our school are classified into various subgroups according to the chronological age of the student as determined professionally. These are as follows:

  • Care Group
  • Primary
  • Secondary
  • Pre-primary
  • Pre-vocational

Care plan

Our teaching staff carefully monitors and tracks the progress of all students. By sharing this information, all staff can plan challenging work that meets the needs of all children but also extends them in and out of the classroom. It is essential to provide a differentiated and personalized learning environment for each child to meet their individual needs. We discuss any concerns about a child's development with parents as soon as possible and agree on steps to support the individual child. We place a high value on parental involvement because a collaborative approach between school and home consistently yields the best results.

How We Teach

We have a well-qualified and experienced team to care for our students, provide training, and help them lead everyday lives. We make sure that all students benefit from our programs. Class Groups

This class primarily contains the youngest toddlers. The age group includes children aged 5 to 10 years. Children can join MARC school in Pre-primary class during the term they turn Five. At the pre-primary level, we focus on developing social, language, and physical skills while assisting children in settling into their new learning environment productively. The learning activities are planned around the skills that are constantly required in everyday life and will be required in future classes. Making classes more exciting and enjoyable for children by using games, songs, and stories. Children develop numeracy and literacy skills as they progress and learn about creative and world topics. This early learning helps to develop solid skills for the Reception year. We aim to improve your child's skills and confidence in all areas before they move on to the following year. We provide continuity for your child through structured transition activities that ensure your child is academically and emotionally prepared for next year.

The primary class includes children who have completed the Pre-primary category. This level includes children aged 11 to 14 years old. Children can join MARC school in Primary class during the term they turn eleven. Children in this class are provided with the opportunity to continue learning and improving the skills they acquired in pre-primary class. Children learn through games, stories, and songs in this classroom, like pre-primary classes. Our students build on their academic and holistic achievements from Primary. They are also motivated to take ownership of their learning and strive for excellence across the curriculum to better prepare them for their destination schools at the end of Year 14. We promote an inclusive ethos in which all students have access to a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum and are given every chance to grow to their full potential while attending school with their peers.

The secondary group is the category that falls between the primary and pre-primary groups. Children can join MARC school in Pre-primary class during the term they turn Five. Students in this category receive specialized care and attention. Our goal is to create opportunities for students to achieve their highest academic goals while nurturing and developing their unique personalities, talents, and interests. By providing students with opportunities to thrive in school and beyond, we help them to become successful learners and well-rounded individuals eager to take their learning to the next level. Through learning the skills necessary to qualify for examinations, students can perform tasks such as applying, assessing, evaluating, using, reevaluating, and developing that knowledge as they go through life. We plan the learning activities around the skills students require every day, as well as those they will need in the future.

Pre-vocational classes are offered to older adults. This class is for differently-abled children above the age of 18 with various abilities. Children can join MARC school in Pre-Vocational classes during the term they turn 18. Each student's knowledge is carefully assessed and trained based on their level. It is planned and taught to them how to be self-employed. The learning activities are adjusted to enable employment in a possible future career. Introducing career and employability skills enhances the ongoing development of life, social, and learning skills. To support these areas of development, these continue to be integrated into all lessons and ongoing distinct classes. Educators teach subjects based on each student's ability and groups are formed to accommodate that ability. We want to instill integrity in our students by teaching them respect for themselves and others and ensuring they understand the distinction between right and wrong.

Children who need more attention and care are included in this group. Differently abled children between the ages of 8 and 25 are included in the level. Considering the constraints, we select the most specific, essential activities without complexities for this group. Selected activities are taught to each child individually based on their abilities. By forming small groups of two or three students within the class according to their level, we can personalize instruction without sacrificing class time. Each student would be assigned to a group based on similar skill levels and educational objectives. Additionally, we can teach general concepts to the entire group while pairing them with individual instruction to teach students at multiple levels at the same time. Individual students can benefit from this approach regardless of their proficiency level since every school subject has some general concepts that are relevant.
